While I was waiting for my Stovebolt registration to be approved back in May, I searched the forums and read through many pages trying to become more acquainted with all the info that is available on this site.

A little info about me: I am 26 years old and this will be my first restoration project. I have intermediate mechanic skills but have zero fabrication experience. I just recently got married and before I got the truck, I bought a house. So, like many of you, I'm on a tight budget ... but motivated!

Now the truck story! I bought this truck at an auction in Cullman, Alabama April 2014. It was to be delivered to Houston by Memorial Weekend, and I couldn't wait!

Right away, I ordered the shop and owners manuals, the wiring diagram, factory assembly manual, accessory installation manual, and a truck restoration guide from Classicparts. I hoped those guides along with y'alls help would assist me in this endeavor.

The truck is a 1958 Chevy Apache 31 and from the action, it only cost $1300! It has the 283 and 3 on the column. The odometer reads 30,360 but I'm guessing that means it is 230,360 miles.

When I finally got the truck home, honestly, it was in a lot rougher shape than I realized. Maybe because I was just a little too excited about it!

The truck actually ran like a scalded dog and fired right up everytime. The only issue I was aware of at the time now was that it was real finicky sometimes going from second and third gear and from reverse to low. I ordered a new set of shift lever bushings hoping this would help.

The truck does have some rust issues but I love the patina color. The inside is shot but, from the looks of it, everything is original and the gauge cluster still works.

I had lots of plans: first order of business was restoring the seat and fixing the radio. Then I'd replace both door and vent windows. Luckily, both the windshield and back glass are in perfect shape. They just need new weatherstripping all the way around it.

I'm going to repair / replace the most severely rusted areas and I am not going to try to straighten out every small little dent.

After the rusted through areas are repaired, I am going to clear coat it to keep the patina color. Then I want to install new chrome bumpers, grille, trim, etc. and install a wooden bed floor. I'll remove the aftermarket lights installed on the cab and fenders.

I changed the oil and the battery cables. I had a crack (really it's a through-wall hole) on the bellhousing and she is not idling correctly. I am completely ignorant as far as carbs go but someone at work said I should play with the set screw? I'm not even sure where that is. The carb is a Rochester 2g, sitting atop the 283. I may end up buying a new carb because the valve is sticking.

I am still having issues with getting it in reverse sometimes. I replaced the shift linkage bushings. No sure what my next step be?

The old man I bought it from said, "Ah ya, just got be careful how ya park." I just want it to be reliable.

I changed the spark plugs, plug wires, cap and points just recently.

I am so excited to get my feet wet with this truck. So every week I am going to buy a little something for the truck. I am sure I will be asking plenty of ignorant questions so your patience and suggestions / advice / comments will be much appreciated.
